Acapulco Gold Cannabis Strain Review

Product Review, Sativa Cultivar

[Mexican Landrace Sativa]

Smelling a strain is important. Whenever I had a patient at the dispensary that was unsure about a strain I would just tell them, “Your nose knows.” and I’d raise the jar to their face and have them choose only with the smell and not their rational thinking. Acapulco Gold is one of those strains that would sell to any patient despite their personal preferences because of the utterly seductive aroma it emits. Pair this delicious Sativa strain with a cup of coffee in the late morning for a productive and blissful afternoon. This is also a strain name that popped up a lot with old timer stoners at the dispensaries. If these beloved patients ever listed off the strains from the “good old days” for me Acapulco Gold would be thrown in there.

How Does It Hit the Senses?

Once the jar is open you will truly become overcome with the aroma of sharp sandalwood embedded with sweet saffron. It is immense, and it is one of those scents that embodies the sativa aroma and engulfs a room when you open the jar or bag. The fat & chunky buds grow in a bulbous structure. They’re generally semi-dense and appear in a rich dark green hue with some light green notes. The taste is rich and vibrant that is quite reminiscent of the aroma but with a nutty almost almond aftertaste.

What Are The Effects?

At first, your mind will wander. It will wander off to weird crevices that you didn’t know existed in your own realm of thought. But then! Then something fantastic happens, all of that creative energy that has sent your thoughts ablaze comes to a fine point. Every time I’ve medicated with Acapulco Gold I’ve become a woman of words. I have finally opened up my floodgates to write poetry, I find streams of immense work flow from my fingers to the laptop and I feel …simply put… lighter. In every sense, Acapulco Gold will alleviate dark feelings and emotions, it will help you to put aside the gloom and just be. Don’t expect too much pain relief from this one, I’d supplement with CBD tincture or mix with a good Indica if you deal with pain. Also don’t worry about munchies, this isn’t Girl Scout Cookies, you won’t have any horrible need to eat half a pie (last night got weird) when medicating with Acapulco Gold.

Moby Dick: A Cannabis Strain Review

Hybrid Cultivar, Product Review

[Haze x White Widow][65% Sativa][18.2% THC & 3.5% CBD]

I’ve been meaning to write this review for awhile now, mostly because this strain is so absolutely wonderful for almost EVERYONE. Not only have boyfriend and I play wrestled for almost an hour like joyous little kids after medicating with this strain, but it can uplift any ornery mood while also giving some pain relief with very little to no lethargic side effects. After running into my favorite lemon faery at the farmer’s market this morning I decided today’s the day to finally review her favorite strain.

Moby Dick first got attention when it won the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1995 on behalf of creator Dinafem Seeds. It was originally bred specifically for medicinal use and is a fabulous option for anyone undergoing chemotherapy since it has epic appetite stimulation.

How Does It Hit Your Senses?

This cannabis strain can range from a more loose bound bud to an extremely dense one depending on grow cycles. I guarantee that your grow will harvest at least one behemoth show bud. The nuggets are vibrantly light yellow green with deep hints of dark forest green sprinkled delicately throughout. Trichomes glitter all over and nugs are straight up dank. It will always hit your nostrils abruptly with a lemony pine scent that is unmistakable. The aroma finishes with a deep sandalwood for a very rounded smell scape. Your first hit will entirely retain all of the brightness that assaulted your senses when you smelled the strain, inhalation and exhalation are equal in bright lemon piney goodness. The flavor sends a richness throughout your sinus passages that is warm and inviting.

It is an intermediate strain to cultivate that takes about 10 weeks to flower. It grows well both in and outdoors but I’d recommended indoors as it requires specific lighting wattage. Test your pH twice daily if possible to avoid anything too high as it greatly effects these genetics. If you pay attention and treat her right, Moby is an extremely high yielder.

What Is The Effect?

For me Moby Dick takes immediate effect directly to my mind, I can actually feel pressure in my brain release in the first couple of moments after medicating. After the initial mental lift the release moves through the face to release eye and facial muscle tension. Slowly in the next five minutes you will feel the body pain and muscular tension slowly drip out of your system. I want to be clear about the special nature of this strain, it not only tests with the best of them in THC content but it also has an extremely high CBD level in comparison to almost every other sativa dominant strain. This combination of mentally uplifting euphoria (THC) and anxiety & pain relief (CBD) creates the perfect storm of happiness and relaxation. The coming hour after medicating with Moby Dick you will feel, as lemon faery puts it, like a cartoon in the most welcome way. You feel playful, joyful and most of all pain free.

Effects will take hold for about 2-5 hours. You will most certainly feel the hunger, just have some healthy snacks made and a big bottle of water near by. Moby awakens the tummy and can help to relieve any nausea; making it a great choice for anyone in need of help with their appetite. I also recommend this to any patient who has issues with mood imbalance, depression, anxiety or heavy stress. And I especially recommend it to all my ladies out there during their moon. It will make you stop hating everything for no reason, crying when you see things for no reason and basically all those ridiculous signs of PMS.. except the ones that compel you to eat a whole package of oreos.. it just helps that one out. It is possible you could feel drowsy about 4-6 hours after medicating, test for the first time in a safe zone in the afternoon as to not upset your sleeping cycle.

Use to Aide With: Depression, Anxiety, Nausea, Day-Time Pain, Anorexia, secondary effects of Chemotherapy, PMS

Girl Scout Cookies: A Cannabis Strain Review

Product Review

[OG Kush x Durban Poison x Granddaddy Purple][60% Indica]

This strain, oh my goodness this strain. When this strain picked up steam in SF it reminded me of when Blue Dream really hit the medical scene in California. It hones in on ingenious mixture of all of my favorites from the Indica to Sativa spectrum. Durban captures an unmistakable flavor and effect, GDP is unmatched in the indica realm and OG Kush sits beautifully between the two all spry and hybridy. There is no other strain that has the same smell, look, feel, smoke like GSC; it can’t be faked.

How Does It Hit the Senses?

Grab a bit of Girl Scout and find yourself with a chunky, bulbous bud that brindles between light green and purple. It’s riddled with patches of dark orange hairs and blanketed in trichomes visible to the naked eye. The smell is just another showcase of the all star genetics and the reason for the fun name. Your first whiff graces you with the minty-pine aroma from the Durban parent and is followed with a sweet, bright earth scent from the OG and GDP lineage. All mixed together the mint and sweetness win out to make a dynamic smell combo in the nostril. That aroma is only trumped by the legendary taste that goes along with it. If what you have is real Girl Scout, and trust me there are many fakes, then you will need just one small toke to feel full effects take their course. Enjoy a flavor profile much like the smell, layered in sweet mint with undertones of musk. When you exhale the smoke will be faintly reminiscent of freshly baked cookies. Growing this strain is intermediate level stuff, it is a hardy plant that can withstand environmental issue more than others. Expect 9-10 week flowering cycle and about 60 grams per plant per harvest.

What is the Effect?

After our last review of a more novice strain I feel it necessary to rank this among the Holy Grail Kush, expert only. If you are new to medicating with cannabis don’t try this one unless you’re in a safe space and don’t have anything left to do with your evening/day. It’s hard to really put your finger on this one, I’ve seen strain reviews that call it a Sativa but I just don’t agree. Although the Durban Poison does quite a good job wrapping itself around your brain the strain even begins with that comfortable Indica softness which develops first behind the eyes.

Next you will feel the body melt into a soft relief from the GDP and OG parentage, before a bubbly and pleasant mental stimulation awakens. Durban Poison tests quite high in THC but it also has great CBN, which gives off a trippy, psychedelic effect. The Girl Scout Cookies daughter has just the right amount of trippy that goes along with the mellowing body pain relief. Prepare for open mouth laughing and continuous giggles, your mood will lift about 1-5 minutes after inhalation.

Use to find relief from: Depression, Anxiety, Nausea, Stress, Minor pain and inflammation

DJ Short's Flo Cannabis Strain Review

Product Review

[Purple Thai x Afghani][60% Sativa]

This strain was created by the master of Blueberry himself, DJ Short out of Colorado. Then it was shipped out to Amsterdam. The hybridization combines two absolutely classic strains for an uplifting, true hybrid. I was extremely excited to see this strain because I am a huge fan of DJ Short’s Blueberry. Flo delivers that soft and airy vibe of the Blueberry with an active and stimulated mind of the Purple Thai back genetics.

How Does It Hit The Senses?

You will see Flo buds grow in dense, light green hues with almost purple undertones. There are short fat orange hairs all throughout the flower. The smell hits you first with a sprig of citrus and ends with a bright earth pine, sort of like lemongrass sprouting from fresh soil. I found the Flo takes me a couple of hits to really ‘get there’, but it is a perfect strain for the medical cannabis beginner and will last about 1-2 hours. If you’re looking to grow this strain it will have about 60 day flowering and can be grown in or outdoor, but loves a greenhouse setting.

What is It’s Effect?

So this is a super functional high, so much so it can feel just plain normal for some. In the medical cannabis world that is a major thumbs up fact about a strain. As I hit this one it starts between my eyes and works its way back through my brain. An almost immediate body buzz emanates throughout your muscular system as you feel our cares float away. As most 60% Sativa hybrids go, it is very mentally active while still remaining a teensy bit dreamy in the mind. The body will experience slight relief form nausea and gastro intestinal issue. You may find yourself locked to the couch about 20 minutes in, but if your general demeanor is that of getting things done the Flo will be a nice avenue with which to do your errands.

Use This For Relief From: This strain can aid in the relief of stress, nausea, stomach pain and issue, and depression. As this is another hybrid it will help to balance those with adrenal issues caused by things such as PTSD.

Sour Kush AKA Headband

Product Review

[OG Kush x Sour Diesel][60% SATIVA]

If you haven’t noticed yet I’m not a huge fan of Sativa strains, they tend to trip me out in the realms of psychedelics like acid and mushrooms. Unfortunately that isn’t copacetic to my daily life, I generally like to get all mentally packed up before I take a trip if you pick up what I’m throwing down. So with that in mind my favorite Sativas live just on the border of 50/50 hybridization like this lovely classic, Sour Kush. My dispensary refers to it as Sour Kush but apparently it has the same genetics as Headband. The effects are similar and the genetics are as elusive, ranging across the board from full Sativa to full Indica in the realms of reviewers out there. I will let you guys know my exact experience from this particular version grown out of Flagstaff, AZ.

How Does It Hit Your Senses?

The buds grow in a beautiful dense, short and fat christmas trees. They vary in light green and light brown patching with a musky lemon scent that hits the nostril with an antiseptic/diesel aroma. Pack it up in the bong or pipe for a one bowl wonder, just a nice juicy hit and you will feel immediate effects. If you’re choosing a joint/blunt route take 1-3 hits for the same effect. The taste is like that of fresh lemon juice and turmeric, a sweet earth citrus. If growing this hybrid beauty expect a 9-10 week flowering time.

What are the Effects?

Effects started for me in the back of the brain, deep in the part of your head that connects to your spine. I felt rapid energy release into a silly but focused stimulation in my mind while releasing pain points in my body. This is one of those really silly strains, I found myself just huge smile laughing and focusing on the fun side of life like I did when I was a child. This hybrid zone (60% Sativa – 60% Indica) is my silly zone, I know that most times those strains will give me the familiar Sativa uplifting I need with out any psychedelia and anxiety included. Definitely consider this strain to relieve your stress, anxiety, migraines, headaches, PTSD, and some body pain. Also use this for adrenal balancing, if you’ve been in a very high stress environment or had a very traumatic experience this zone of hybrids will help to balance that adrenal imbalance you may have acquired.
